Saudi International Quran Contest Ends as Iranian Qari Finishes 4th

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Quran and Adhan of the Smell of Speech (Otr Elkalam) competition has ended in Saudi Arabia and Iranian Qari Seyed Jassem Mousavi finished in fourth place.

Mustafa Maghrebi of Morocco took the title while Muhammad Ayub Asef of Great Britain and Muhammad Mujahid of Bahrain followed.

The competition started on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan with the participation of 80,000 qaris from all over the world.

First-round contenders came from more than 80 countries, organizers said.

They competed in the two categories of Quran recitation and Adhan (call to prayer).

In the Adhan category, the representatives of Turkey won the first two places while the third and four places went to the Muezzins of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia’s entertainment authority has awarded the biggest financial prize in the history of talent contests of its kind in the world, especially contests of a religious nature, worth $3.2 million .

The first place winner with the most beautiful voice reciting the Holy Quran receives $1.3 million, while the first place winner issuing the call to prayer receives $533,000. The remaining prize is divided among six other candidates.

The competition combines good interpretation and the laws of melody, targeting the beauty of the voice without the accompaniment of music.
