Schenectady’s Music Haven announces 2021 series

Schenectady’s Music Haven has announced a season of three regional and international talent shows after a one-year hiatus. The musicians will take the stage at Schenectady’s Central Park on August 15, 22 and 29.

Since 1990 Music Haven has brought world class music to Schenectady. Although the series is shorter than in previous years, Music Haven strives to maintain its reputation as a local hub for musical exploration.

I am delighted to keep Music Haven on the map this summer and to welcome my friends and neighbors to the heart of the park.

Local blues band Wyld Blu will kick off the series on August 15th. Headlining the evening, blues guitarist Albert Cummings, on tour to celebrate his new album, Believe.

The second concert of the season will feature Israeli / Iranian pop singer Liraz, who will be accompanied by several members of the Ethiopian jazz collective from New York, the Anbessa Orchestra. Palestinian virtuoso of Kanun, Firas Zreik, will set the stage as the opening guest of the evening.

The Schenectady Symphony Orchestra returns to Music Haven this year, under the direction of Glen Cortese. Closing the series on August 29, their program is inspired by “The American Songbook” and features classical music from the Tin Pan Alley era by Gershwin, Porter and Berlin, Copland, traditional American folk tunes and popular film music. by John Williams. Special guest singers, Mia Scirocco and Casey Gray will be featured throughout the evening.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase from local vendors Michele’s Charcoal Pit, Wolf Hollow Brewing Company, and Nine Pin Cider. Ben & Jerry’s ice cream will also be on site.

In case of bad weather, the shows will take place at Proctors.
